A scrubland vegetation of the Mediterranean region, composed primarily of leathery, broad-leaved evergreen shrubs or small trees.
I was startled by the beauty of maquis since i was a child. Even if it’s an intruder (and this is quite funny), my favourite plant is the Eucalyptus.
During the WWII “prendre la maquis” meant hiding, taking refuge in an inaccessible place, to escape prosecution or to resist the occupier
Here some info about this kind of vegetation.
- Canna comune – Arundo donax
- Cisto marino – Cistus monspeliensis
- Festuca annuale – Vulpia myuros
